Obituaries » Claudia McCray

Mrs. Claudia Harris McCray, daughter of Preston, Sr. and Leola Rock Harris, was born on October 25, 1947 in Statesboro, Georgia.

Claudia graduated from William James High School and attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.  She was one of the first Black women to integrate both her high school and college.   During her working years, she worked in Consumer Banking with Bank of America before retiring in 2002.

On August 23, 1969, Claudia married Mr. Leon McCray and was a devoted wife for 47 years.   To this union, three children were born, whom she dearly loved.

Claudia was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, GA.  She was affectionately known as a “Powerhouse Prayer Warrior” and was always willing to pray and intercede for, and with, anyone in need or on her heart.  She faithfully served as a member of the Prayer Ministry and regularly attended Prayer Meeting until her health declined.

In retirement, Claudia loved to exercise and loved to participate in in-door cycling to keep her body healthy and strong.  Also, she was known for her beautiful smile, compassionate heart, and love of people.  She had a sense of humor and talent for making others laugh, even at times when they wanted to cry.  Her personality was contagious, infecting everyone around her with her joy and laughter.

During life, Claudia often recited Psalm 118:17 that states, “I shall live and not die, and declare the works of the Lord.”   She departed this earthly life to move to her heavenly home on August 23, 2016… view obituary.
