Rubertha Samuels Dixon was born March 22, 1932, in North Augusta, South Carolina to the late Walter and Sara Samuels.

Rubertha attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and A.R. Johnson Magnet School. She attended Mount Vernon Baptist Church where she was a member of the usher board and the kitchen cook staff.
